An instigated hike by one of my teenager led us to hike at Morrow State Mountain Park.. We were familiar with this park as it is where we had our first camping trip as a family (needless to say that was our one and only camping trip..although most of us enjoyed it)
Well we decided that we would do the “walk by the river” trail and we began. My husband says let’s see what will happen this time..will someone get hurt, will we find a stranded hiker who can’t walk because she has twisted an ankle and I have to carry her back down the trail (this has happened to us) or will we get lost or will the skies open up and we get caught in the storm. And I say..”well pick one it is the “Walker way….”
Well we are on our way..Hershey in tow who is in her element might I add (we both are)… our happy place…We are moving along the “orange triangle trail”… We thenget to this juncture that has a huge big arrow to the left but there is a path straight ahead that says “strenuous, “danger ahead”, “enter at your own risk”, I think there something about “it could be fatal” and one of us decides we should go that way since it would allow us to keep walking by the river..wiith affirmation from the native that we stumbled upon who told us “you could go either way”
Well that was true to a certain extent but we began to start wondering where the path was as there were no orange triangles in sight …and the one who was the most adventurous of the bunch says, “We are on the path.” As my husband and I roll our eyes at each other to say it does not feel like it.
Well it finally dead ends into the large steep rock climb and we go…ut oh…this does not seem like “the path” so my husband checks it out as we are starting to see the power lines we are inching closer and closer to the dam. (It was a beautiful sound by the way)
To sum this “we on the path” story up. We ended up about ½ mile off the path…we saw a doe, a baby turtle, a baby copperhead, and yes we got rained on. It was still peaceful and pleasant despite the steep ups and downs…
So I tell you this story to remind us that you are always “on the path” despite where it takes you. Sometimes the path brings unexpected changes..good, bad and indifferent…but even if we are “on the path”…the road still might seem a little rocky.
